IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joyce S.
Shaw
November 4, 1936 – January 21, 2022
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Crestwood Chapel for Joyce Shaw, age 85, of Hokes Bluff, Alabama. Jacob Dowdy will officiate and burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery.
Our beloved mother went to meet her sweet Lord and be with her precious family members on January 21, 2022.
Joyce was a 1954 graduate of Gadsden High School. She worked for the U.S. government for several years and also for State Farm Insurance for 20 years. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church of Coates Bend. Joyce loved her church family; especially the "girls" in her Sunday school class. She said that they brought her much "joy."
Already in Heaven and joining her there will be: parents Harry and Ruby Swann, niece Kari Swann, and granddaughter Jordan Hassell.
Joyce is survived by her husband Wilburn "Bunk" Shaw, brother Robert (Delaney) Swann, children: Cynthia (Richard) Hassell, Melissa Shaw (son- in-love Shane Helms), and Jonathan "Bo" (Eun-hui) Shaw, grandchildren: Anson Shaw, Brack (Eva) Hassell, Kathryn "Sunshine" (Kurt) McAdams, and Heather (Scott) Coley, great grandchildren: Benton Hassell, Parker Hassell, and Cooper Coley, nieces: Kelli (Shelton) McElroy and Miranda (Clint) Brannon, grand nieces and nephews: Corey (Kristen) Connett, Carlie (Stratton) Porter, Jacob (Andee) Dowdy, Luke Dowdy, Joshua Brannon, and Rebecca Brannon, great grand nieces and nephews: Maddox, Madelyn, and Mason Connett, her chosen sisters: Barbara Scott, Bonnie Able, and Doris Young, and her sister in Christ Wanda Simmons.
The family will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and staff at Riverview Regional Medical Center CCU floor, Kindred Hospice, and Mountain Cove Assisted Living. Mom was cared for with much dignity and unconditional love and care from everyone there.
We would also like to thank Dr. Layla Wren for always being there for us.
In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to Humane Society Pet Rescue an Adoption Center at 4200 Brooke Ave., Gadsden, Al. 35904. https://hsprac.com
The family will accept friends at the funeral home starting at 10:00 a.m. and lasting until the time of service.
