Funeral will at 1 p.m. Saturday at Crestwood Chapel for Mrs. Jonnie Ruth Baskin, 86, of Gadsden, who died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015. Rev. Curtis Scott and Roy Daugherty will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Baskin was born in Etowah County and lived there all her life. She was a member of McCauley's Chapel Methodist Church for more than 25 years. During that time, she served as Pastor Parish careperson, Shepherd Chair Member, substitute pianist, Cemetery Preservation Director and Director of the Methodist Women. Mrs. Baskin's forefathers were among the first settlers of Southside, Ala. As a child, Mrs. Baskin sang in a family gospel quartet, and her love of music continued for the entirety of her life. She also enjoyed arranging flowers and was known for her concern for the welfare of all animals.
Mrs. Baskin was preceded in death by her parents, James I. and Flossie Usry Dick; husband, Robert H. Baskin; brothers, Theron and DeWitt Dick; and sisters, Jo Quinn and Gladys Dolberry.
Mrs. Baskin is survived by her daughters, Sherry Payne, Bobbie (Bill) Monk; granddaughters, Teri Sutherlin (Ron) Chupp and Keri Sutherlin (Jason) Buchmann; grandson, Charles Payne; great-granddaughter, Anderson Kate Chupp; sister, Jean Holmes, Flintstone, Ga.; nieces, Jean Character, Priscilla (Robert) Smith; and nephew, Richard (Vivian) Holmes.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Brewster, Jason Buchmann, Ron Chupp, Wayne Kendrick, Thomas McNew, Robert Smith, Jake Sutherlin and Randall West.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mitchell Logan, Bill Monk and Dr. Michael Naughton.
