A memorial service for Mr. John H. Weatherwax age 53 of Southside who died Sunday will be held 6 pm Wednesday at Mercy Hill Church of Rainbow City. Reverends Jeff Underwood and Wally Kinsman will officiate. Crestwood Funeral Home announcing.
Mr. Weatherwax was preceded in death by parents Kenneth and Wilma Weatherwax ,brother Kenneth Weatherwax Jr. and father in law Harold L. Worthy.
Mr. Weatherwax was born in Moulton Alabama and graduated from Decatur High School class of 1980. He attended Auburn University and also served in The United States Air Force. He was a longtime member of The Church at Mercy Hill where he enjoyed serving by mowing and helping maintain the church grounds. He was well known as a fiercely loyal Auburn fan and spent most fall Saturdays on the Plains cheering on his beloved Tigers. He also had a great love for his family and friends and was always ready to help them whenever there was a need. John also worked as a postal clerk for over 30 years
He is survived by wife Suzanne, children Rudd (Alicia) Weatherwax and daughter Ashley Weatherwax, granddaughter Sophia Weatherwax, sister Linda Weatherwax Evans, brother Joseph Weatherwax and mother in- law Patricia Worthy.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Church at Mercy Hill benevolence fund or playground funds.
The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday from 4 pm until the time of service.
