John Edward Gaghen, 89, passed on, February 5, 2018. (He never liked the term passed away).He was born February 24, 1928 to Thomas C. and Edna C. Gaghen and was raised during the depression in Alton, Illilois.
Mr. Gaghen was a radar specialist and instructor while serving for six years in the United States Air Force serving both in WWII and the Korean War. After leaving the military he returned to Illinois and graduated from Shurtleff College with a Business Degree and was employed as an industrial engineer for over thirty years. He then returned to the South and found his real home in Alabama. He never ceased to talk about his love of the mountains, river and the people of Gadsden.
He is survived by sons, Lewis M. Gaghen and Thomas A. Gaghen (Debbie); sisters, Shirley Streshinski and Judy Bianchie; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara Frohock Gaghen; son, John Edward Gaghen, Jr.; sister, Mary Jane Wendle; brother, Harry W. Gaghen.
Special thanks to Camellia Hospice and our wonderful caregivers, Susan, Ann and Margaret. Also, to all the friends that added him to their prayer lists. A private cremation was furnished by Crestwood Funeral Home. Our "Passed On" father will be missed.
