Mrs. Joan Ann Clayton, age 73 , passed away on August 12, 2022, after a two year battle with breast cancer.

She is preceded in death by her parents Jack and Betty Gilliland, brother David Gilliland, and her son Paul Erik Clayton, who she missed greatly.

Joan is survived by her husband of forty nine years Stanley Clayton; three sons Sean, Jeremy, and Marty Clayton; nine grandchildren: Kobe, Jagger, TristanAnya, Gideon, Cameron, Charity, Sarah, and Jackson Clayton; chosen grandson Vincent Blankenship; sisters Charlotte (John) Gregerson, Diane Gilliland, and Julia Gilliland and several nieces and nephews.

Joan grew up on Sand Mountain and graduated from Sardis High School. Joan and Stan were married in 1973, then they had four boys. Joan was a homemaker and a devoted mother while her boys were growing up. In later years she worked at Swann's Antique and Furniture Store where she enjoyed meeting and talking to her customers.

Joan was a gentle, caring and kind person who loved people. For most of her adult life she attended the West Gadsden Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah Witnesses. She loved studying the Bible and talking to people about her god, Jehovah.

The family wishes to thanks everyone who came to visit, called, and sent her flowers and card of encouragement. She cherished it all. Also we would like to thank Dr. Anakwah and the staff of HOAA for her care during treatment. Also they would like to thank Pro Health Hospice for the loving care they provided these last three months, especially her nurses Nicole, Marley, Brittany, and Leah.

At Joan's request, there will be no service.
