Jimmy was a longtime resident of Talladega County. He had made a living for his family by farming in Talladega and during the off season he would sometimes drive a truck. He was so proud to be a farmer and worked very hard in the fields. As a hobby he would have a vegatable garden that he would share with friends and neighbors. He believed in hard work and taking pride in everything you do. He and his wife Elverta were members of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Friendship Community for many years. His church was very important to him and he took every opportunity to share Jesus with everyone. Jimmy loved, above all, his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his wife "Bert", and his children and their families.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his wife Elverta P. Strickland, son Bobby Strickland, and his infant grandson, William M. Strickland
He is survived by his children William Michael Strickland, Donna Carroll, and Doug Strickland; grandchildren Jessica Wells (Josh), Ashley Quinn (Chad), Kayla Carroll (Tad Schmidt), and Whitney Johnson; great grandchildren Seth Wells, Carly Quinn, and Jemma Schmidt; special friends and family Howard and Elizabeth Vice and many friends and extended family.
Many thanks to the special friend and caregiver Michelle Fox. And a very special thanks to his devoted son, Doug, for always being there for him.
The family would also like to share their appreciation to the many doctors, nurses and their staffs for caring for Jimmy during his fight with lung cancer. Just to share a few: Dr. Rohit Patel, Dr. Gaines, Dr. Robert Conry.
