Graveside funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rainbow Memorial Gardens for Mrs. Jewel Martin, 92, of Glencoe, who died Wednesday, April 30. Chaplain Matthew Rose will officiate. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge of services.
Mrs. Martin was born Christmas Day in Hulaco, Ala. She was a 1938 graduate of Emma Sansom High School. She worked at The Darling Shop and The Ritz Theatre in Alabama City before marrying her husband of 72 years, J. Hammond Martin. Their marriage made the papers because they were married on a boat in the middle of Guntersville Lake. She raised three sons and followed her husband's insurance career to Crossville, Scottsboro, Gadsden, Griffin, Ga., and Decatur, Ala., where they spent 26 years and came to Hokes Bluff in 1996 until they moved in with family in 2006.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Hammond Martin; parents, Roy and Jimmie Stewart; grandson, Chris Martin; and brothers, Darrell and Jack Stewart.
She is survived by sons, Jay (Libby) Martin of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., David (Pat) Martin of Glencoe, and George (Cindy) Martin of Heflin, Ala.; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Catherine Ray) Martin of Rainbow City, Ala., Angie (Jonothan) Sanders, Jason (Kathryn) Martin of Birmingham, Chad Reavis of Sneeds Crossroads, Justin Martin of Seattle, Wash., Todd Martin of Decatur, and Paul Martin of Charlotte, N.C.; six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
