Private funeral services rill be held Thursday in Anniston forJerry W. Roberts, 77, Gadsden, who passed away Monday, November 1,2010. The Rev. John F. Screws, Jr will officiate with burial to follow at Forrest Lawn Cemetary. trestwood Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be at Crestwood Funeral Home Thursday from 11:00 to 1:00. Jerry was born December 23, 1932 in Gadsden, AI. He was a 1950 graduate of Oxford High School and a 1954 graduate of Jacksonville State University with a degree in Business Administration. He was also a graduate of Louisiana State University's Banking School of the South.He began his banking career at First City National Bank of Gadsden. In 1974 he organized The First State Bank of Albertville, and later The First State Bank of Dekalb County in Fort Payne. In 1987 he founded The First American Bank of Destin, Florida where he retired from banking in 1993.He served in the United States Army Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel with 23 years of service. He was a member of the Rotary Clubs of Gadsden. Albertville, and Destin. He served as President of the Boys Club of Alabama and served in different capacities with various Chambers of Connmerce. He was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Destin, Florida. Jerry loved the game of tennis, the beach, and enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be remembered by family and friends for his constant smile and great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Carra Roberts. --- He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Shaddix Roberts, Gadsden,sons, Greg Roberts and Jeff(Michelle) Roberts, Gadsden. Brothers,William (Pam) Roberts Rome, Georgia, Edward (Sandy) Roberts,Athens,Georgia, and sister, Sarah (John) Cummings, St Clair,Michigan,grandchildren, Bentley Roberts, Blakeley Roberts, Tyler Roberts, and Tanner Roberts all of Gadsden, and many special nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Sonny Morrison, Archie Ray Bullock, John Glosson,Bentley Roberts, Tyler Roberts,and Tanner Roberts. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, P.O. Box 96391 Washington, D.C. 20090, or to a charity of your choice.
