James Larry “Bud” Waters, Sr., age 83, of Hokes Bluff, Alabama, passed away on September 3, 2026.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Crestwood Funeral Home in Gadsden, Alabama. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Jeff Clevenger will officiate. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jim was married to the love of his life, Joann, for 62 years, and together they raised three children. He proudly retired from the United States Army after 21 years of dedicated service, which included serving in the Vietnam War and receiving the Bronze Star for his valor. Following his military career, Jim retired from the Anniston Army Depot after more than 20 years of service.

Jim was an avid sports enthusiast and had a lifelong passion for Alabama football. However, nothing compared to the love he had for his family. His family was the center of his life, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Sexton Waters and Ruby Haynes Waters; his grandson, Luke Wade Waters; and numerous other family members.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Joann; children, JL (Karen), Angela, and Eric (Adria); grandchildren, Kira, Erica (Naomi), Abbey, and Luke; great-grandchild, Proxi; and numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.

Pallbearers will be his beloved nephews.
