Obituary

Funeral services will be 2 pm Sunday at Crestwood chapel for Mr. James G. Morgan age 92 of Gadsden who died Wednesday. Reverend Mark Gidley and Tommy Ferguson will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home in charge of services.

He was a member of Goodyear Heights Baptist Church for over 50 years. Grover served his church in many jobs, he was chairman of two pulpit search comities for pastors, deacon for 3-3 year terms, was a teacher of junior boys, 3-5 years in visitation for church visiting hospitals and new members. He was the chairperson for the first budget at Goodyear Heights Baptist Church. He served 3 years in the Marine Corps during WWII, with tours in the South Pacific, China and Japan. His service included 71 days of Combat, he also visited Okinawa and Hiroshima in 1945.He was placed in Etowah County Hall of Honor (2012) for WWII service. His Military awards include China Service Medal, 1945 -1946, Asiatic Pacific WWII, WWII Victory Medal, Combat Action USMC WWII, Combat Service Commemorative, American Defense Commemorative, Cold War Victory Commemorative, Honorable Service (Active WWII).

He attended Hokes Bluff High School where he lettered in football in 1942.He attended The University of Alabama Gadsden Center from 1948-1949.Grover retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 43 years of service. He was member of V.F.W. Post 2760 , lifetime member of U.S. Marine Corps League,

"His Life Was a Journey, Not a Destination".

He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Pauline, parents George and Willie Mae Morgan, sister Christine Reaves; brothers, Matthew Winston Morgan and Clarence Morgan.

He is survived by son Ricky (Terri) Morgan;  grandchildren Christa Morgan, Susan Morgan ,Eric(Sarah) Morgan and Elliot(Danielle) Morgan, great grandchildren Christopher and Savana Schmude, Keagen, Benjamin, Travis and Avacyn Morgan.

Special thanks to Drs. Warren and Carpenter, nurses Trey, Brittaney, Candy and Tammy and the 9 th floor staff.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6 until 8 pm.
