Funeral service for James Roy Moore Sr. 91 of Hokes Bluff will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Crestwood Funeral Home. Brother Rodney McInnis and Brother Vince Wittington will officiate. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge.

Roy was a kind loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, but most of all a Christian. He was born and raised in Shelby County Alabama during the depression and always made the comment that he hopes our country never has to go thru anything like that again. After school, he felt it an honor and privilege to serve in the United States Army and was a proud Veteran of World War II in Europe.

Soon after his return from the war, he married his 5th grade sweetheart, Kitty McDowell of Bessemer Alabama. After many years of marriage, God blessed Kitty and Roy with a wonderful son, Jim. He and Kitty had a wonderful marriage of 63 years.

He was employed at U.S. Steel, Fairfield Works - cotton tie department for 23 years. During this time Roy was saved and answered the call to the ministry. He was forever grateful to the leadership of pastor Ray Edwards and others in the church family at the Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Bessemer. Many there played an instrumental part in his early ministry years.

During his fifty years of ministry, he had the privilege of serving as pastor for the Pleasant Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Centerville Alabama, the Harrodsburg Ky., the Nebo Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Lexington, Al., twice at the Enon Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Ackerman MS., the Glencoe Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Glencoe Al, the Clear Creek
