James Thomas Greer, born December 30, 1952, in Benton, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on
January 20, 2025, in Gadsden, Alabama. James was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 43 years, Sherry Wimpee Greer. Together, they built a loving family that includes their children Shane Greer (Heather), Amber Seymore (Wade), and Stuart Greer. He was a proud grandfather to Michael and Tyler Greer and Cheyenne, Caleb, and Jeremiah Seymore. James is also survived by his siblings Clark Greer (Cindy), Vance Greer (Kathy),
and Charlotte Greer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Monteal Greer. A graduate of Etowah High School, James excelled as an athlete in football and track. Following his graduation, he served honorably as a member of the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division. After completing his military service, James pursued his passion for the rodeo, where he particularly enjoyed riding broncs. James was an avid reader and had a love for history. James would light up a room with his playful spirit and sense of humor. James was a devout Christian whose faith was the cornerstone of his life. He cherished his role as a family man and found immense joy in spending
time with those he loved most. He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his steadfast faith, and the adventurous spirit that carried him from the football field to the rodeo arena. May his memory bring
comfort and peace to all who knew him.
Services to honor James's life will be held at Crestwood Funeral Home in Gadsden on January 29, 2025. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:00
p.m. The burial will take place on January 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Alabama National Cemetery.
