James David Hindsman, 81, of Glencoe, Alabama, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2026, with his beloved wife, Faye, by his side.
Born in Gadsden, Alabama, David was the son of the late John Foy Hindsman and Martha Dell (Smith) Hindsman. He lived a life focused on faith, family, and service to his community. He spent more than 35 years as a CPA, serving generations of clients whom he always considered friends. He owned and managed his own firm for much of that time.
David believed in instilling in his family the importance of supporting the community that supports you. He served in many capacities for various charities throughout Etowah County, including the United Way of Etowah County and the Gadsden Rotary Club. He especially cherished his service alongside the men and women on the Board of Directors of The Salvation Army.
David was passionate about woodworking and created many beautiful pieces for friends and family. His bluebird houses were always a popular item at local charity auctions! He loved his family and was incredibly proud of them all. He was Dad and Papaw to his family and Chief to many friends. Nobody really knows where that nickname came from.
David is survived by his wife of 61 years, Faye (McKinney) Hindsman, who stood faithfully by his side in both his business and charitable endeavors. She will miss him dearly. He is also survived by his children, Scott Hindsman (Teresa), Todd Hindsman (Traci), and Debbie Myrick (Wesley).
David was incredibly proud of his seven grandchildren: Chris (Amanda), Greg (Heather), Robbie (Nick), Hunter (Taylor), Kristen (Logan), Bradley (Bailey), and Lindsey. He also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren: Tucker, Lily, Joanna, Lawson, Mason, Jack, Brooks, Melanie, Anna Blake, and Beckham.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Frances.
Pallbearers will be Papaw’s grandsons, along with Nick and Logan. Honorary pallbearers will be his special friends, Bill and Greg Abel.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Amedisys Hospice and Nurse Hannah, caregivers Rachel and Vickie, and especially Kristen, who dedicated so much time to caring for her Papaw.
A celebration of David’s life will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, in the chapel at Crestwood Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. The family will gather at the graveside following the service.
The service will be officiated by Rev. Donny Yarbrough and Rev. Hunter Hindsman.
In lieu of flowers, David would be honored if memorial contributions were made to the local Salvation Army.
