IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Bishop
June 19, 1931 – January 20, 2022
Funeral services will be 2 pm Friday, at Crestwood Chapel, for Mr. James Robert Bishop age 90 of Gadsden who passed away January 21, 2022. Reverend Thom Harrison Will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home announcing.
Mr. Bishop was the son of the late Robert Sherman Bishop and Ethel Pounds Bishop, and was a native and lifelong resident of Etowah County. He was the grandson of the late James R. Pounds Sr. and Annie Lasseter Pounds of Gadsden Alabama and the late William Benjamin Bishop, and Treasy Jett Bishop of Albertville Alabama. He was the great grandson of the late Wm. F. Lasseter, a well-known Methodist Minister in Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his sister Catherine Bishop Madison and brother in-law Capt. Garland E. Madison, a fighter pilot that was killed in the Korean War.
Mr. Bishop was a graduate of Gadsden High School. Attended The University of Alabama Extension Center and was graduate of Jacksonville State University.
He retired from Gadsden State Community College and was affiliated for over 25 years with Tanglewood Apartments, Inc.. He was member of The East Gadsden United Methodist Church and a past member of the Administrative Board having served on the finance committee, Pastoral Relations Committee, and as a trustee. He was a veteran of The Korean War. He along with his father were avid quail hunters and had owned and trained highly bred bird dogs for years. Prior to his service in The Air Force he and his father owned and were equally enthusiastic about Tennessee Walking Horses.
He is survived by a number of cousins. The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to forever friend and loved one Clara Collins and Mr. Bishops sitters Jennifer Battles, Robin Powers, Mary Wyatt, Glenda Mayo, Kathy Lindsay and best friend and helper Johnny Clay.
Honorary Pallbearers will be all former Ministers of The East Gadsden United Methodist Church, Administrative Board Members and all personal friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Corley, and Dr. Mary Rutherford along with their staffs for the medical care received. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 1pm until the time of service.
