Obituary

A graveside service will be held for Jack Davies, 96, of Hokes Bluff, who died peacefully on Thursday, September 16, 2021. Services will be held at Crestwood Cemetery, Gadsden on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 1PM . Pastor Eddie Gooch of Hokes Bluff First United Methodist Church is officiating.
Jack Davies was born December 29, 1924 in Hokes Bluff, at the family farm -- the youngest of five children -- to the late James Ganaway Davies and Pearl (Russell) Davies.
Jack attended Hokes Bluff High School. After high school, Jack worked for a Charleston SC logging company where he operated heavy equipment. While in Charleston he joined the US Army, July, 1943. Jack served in the Pacific theater with duty in the Philippines, Saipan and Okinawa. He returned to the States in 1946 and used the GI Bill to attend the Gadsden Technical School. After graduation he worked for a Hokes Bluff auto shop --- Morris Garage. Later on Jack worked at Allis-Chalmers (10 years) and it was there that he met the love of his life, Lula Frances Muskett. Jack and Lula married in December, 1965. Jack joined Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company -- when Allis-Chalmers in Gadsden closed – and then retired from Goodyear after 20+ years.
In retirement, Jack and Lou loved traveling far and wide (Alaska and lower 48) in their RV's and Honda Gullwing motorcycle and belonged to the local clubs for each. One of Jack's early-owned motorcycles – and a nephews' and nieces' favorite – was a Harley-Davidson. Jack loved live music, Gadsden First Fridays, all sorts of motorcycles and cars, and festivals --- especially chocolate festivals.
Jack was a long-time, faithful member and an officer of Hokes Bluff Masonic Lodge 470 and attended Hokes Bluff First United Methodist Church. He was loved and liked by his many friends and acquaintances, his neighbors and especially his family. Jack's quick wit, knowledge, his even demeanor and ever-helpful nature will be missed by all.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Frances (Muskett) Davies, sisters Mamie (Davies) Walton, Dot (Davies) Cabe, Sara (Davies) Page and brother James Ganaway Davies, Jr.
All of his many nieces and nephews remain to cherish their memories of Uncle Jack Davies.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Hokes Bluff First United Methodist Church, 3001 Alford Bend Road, Hokes Bluff, AL 35903. Thank you.
