Funeral services will be 2 pm Sunday at Rainbow City First United Methodist Church for Mr. Howard S. Schwartz age 80 of Southside who died Tuesday February 24. Pastor Lynn Dimon will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge of services.
Mr. Schwartz was a 1952 graduate of Etowah High School. He joined the United States Army serving in Korea as a Military Police Officer. During his service time he met and married the love of his life Barbara Pate. He then entered Jacksonville State from which he graduated in 1962.He then went to work for Republic Steel where he worked for 35 years. After retiring from Republic Steel he worked as office manager at Briar Mead Golf Course for 17 years. That was anything but a job to him as his love for golf overshadowed any work involved. He truly loved the game. Howard was a Christian and member of Rainbow City First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was very active in the church serving in many capacities including men's Club officer and District officer as well as Leading a team of ushers each and every Sunday. Losing his church service and attendance will be a great void for the church and community. Howard was a loving Husband, Father, grandfather, great Grandfather and friend to all and his wonderful wit and sense of humor will be remembered and dearly missed.
Mr. Schwartz was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Nellie Schwartz and six siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Barbara Pate, daughters Karen (David)Daniell and Lisa S. Holliday. Grandchildren Anthony(Marjorie), Ashley(Nathan), Tiffany, Andrea(Justin), and Timothy(Vanessa),7 great grandchildren, Kate, David, Claire, Ellie, Laura, Nora, and Jack and his four siblings Rosemary, Ronald, Don and Judy and grand dogs Bambi and Cocoa.
Pallbearers will be Family and friends. Honorary pallbearers are Ushers of Rainbow City First United Methodist Church
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Rainbow City First United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 6 until 8 pm at Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home.
