Obituary

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Sweet Home Methodist Church for Herman Jones Sr., 85, Gadsden, who died Nov. 8, 2012. The Rev. Dedric A. Cowser will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge. Herman "Radio" Jones Sr. was born in Franklin, Ga., on Jan. 19, 1927, to the late Lupie and Precious Ridley Jones. He was the fourth child out of seven children. Herman graduated high school after taking night classes at James L. Cane Elementary School in East Gadsden, Ala. Herman also received a degree from Birmingham Baptist College of Theology. He was employed at Republic Steel of Chattanooga, Tenn., and worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber of Gadsden for 33 years until he retired. He was a loving and devoted father who loved to make people laugh and feel good about themselves. He would always say "You are the prettiest girl I've ever seen." He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean Jones; one brother, Leon Jones; two sisters, Vera Cooley and Pauline Dix. Herman accepted Christ at an early age and joined Sweet Home United Methodist Church. Herman Jones Sr. was married twice, and from those two unions, five children were born. His first marriage to Beatrice Malone, two sons were born, Herman Jr. and Curtis, and he helped to rear Beatrice's other three children, Henry Horton, Barbara Parker and Minister Louise Rushon. Herman's second marriage to Doris Jean Adamson Jones, three children were born, two sons, Cedric and Darryl Van; one daughter, Kimlyn. He also fathered Cedrecia Renee Jarmon. Herman Jones Sr. is survived by his children, Herman Jones Jr. of Drummonds, Tenn., Curtis (Ratana, "Lot") Jones of Fayetteville, N.C., Cedric (Mary) Jones, Darryl (Sandra) Jones, and Kimlyn (Willie "Lovett") Lovett, all of Gadsden, Cedrecia Renee Jarmon of Detroit, Mich.; stepchildren, Henry (Loretta) Horton of St. Louis, Mo., Barbara Parker of Cleveland, Ohio, and Minister Louise (Willie) Rushon of Gadsden; brothers, Ervin (Jeanita) Jones of Newman, Ga. and Doyle (Juanita) Jones of Louisville, Ky.; sister, Vernell People of Anniston; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and cousins, nieces and nephews; and a great number of friends. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. Flower-bearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Special thanks to Cunningham and Sons Funeral Home, Crestwood Funeral Home, Lot Jones, Curtis Jones Jr., Holly Jones, Darius Jones and Amellia (Darrin) Peterson.
