Graveside services will be held at Crestwood Cemetery Friday June 3, 2016 at Crestwood Cemetery for Mr. Henry Skaggs, age 93, loving husband, wonderful father, friend to all he met, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 31st. Henry was born on October 6, 1922 in Chavies, Alabama to the lat Francis and Annie Mae Skaggs. He was married for 60 years to his late wife Vila Nell Skaggs and was a long time member of Bellevue Baptist Church. The Reverend Bill Abbott will officiate and burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery.
Survived by: Daughter - Henrietta Wilbanks, Fyffe, sons Eddie (Donna) Skaggs and Charles (Vera) Skaggs, Gadsden and Alan (Connie) Skaggs, Carrollton, Ga., 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, and his sister Shirley Bell.
Henry served in the Air Force during WWII as an aircraft mechanic. He retired from Republic Steel, where he worked for 31 years as a mill wright in the blooming mill. After retirement, he drove the train at Noccalula Falls for 15 years, where he took great pleasure meeting old friends and making many new friends. Henry loved hi neighbors and was always looking for ways to help, from giving vegetables from his garden, to bringing their newspaper to them when they were unable to get it.
Pallbearers will be: Wade Skaggs, Grant Skaggs, Brent Skaggs, Corey Skaggs, Scott Brown and Glen Phillips
The family would like to express thanks to the Alacare nurses who took good care of our dad and a special thanks to the Compassionate Comforter ladies, especially " That Girl", Reda Bishop, who took such loving care of our dad for the past two years.
Family will receive friends Thursday evening June 2, 2016 5-7 pm.
