Funeral services will be at 3pm Sunday at Crestwood Chapel for Mrs. Helen Harriett Hardage Godfrey age 85 of Gadsden who went to be with the Lord Thursday, December 12, 2013. Dr. Craig Carlisle and Reverend Taylor Gallman will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge of services.
Mrs. Godfrey was born in Butler, GA on July 14, 1928, the daughter of the late Omar Sims Hardage and the late Annie Ruth Fuller Hardage of Rome Georgia . In addition to her parents Mrs. Godfrey was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Elliott Godfrey, in 1973. She was a wife and homemaker and was a member of The Bellevue Methodist Church in Gadsden, Alabama.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Ralph Edwin Godfrey; two daughters, Tammy Carlisle and her husband Dr. Craig Carlisle of Southside, Terry Mathis and her husband Tim Mathis of Rome, GA; three grandchildren, Ashley Mathis Dills and her husband Michael Dills of Rome, GA, Andy Mathis of Rome, GA, and Jordan Carlisle of Birmingham; one great-grandchild, Audrey Dills of Rome, Ga; also surviving is one sister, Ann Baker McDonald of Rome, GA.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mental Health Center, The Love Center, or The Way of The Cross Ministries.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jamie Robinson and Dr. Jason Ayers, Gadsden Regional Medical Center MICU and 9th floor nurses and staff, and Gadsden Regional Medical Center Inpatient Hospice Care for their attentive care.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 3pm Sunday at Crestwood Funeral Home.
