Obituary

Hazel Moncus, 97, of Gadsden died peacefully at home Thursday October 3 after a prolonged illness. Services are Monday at Crestwood Chapel, with visitation at 10AM, funeral 11AM. Dr. Langston Haygood will officiate. She will be buried in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct services.

Mrs. Moncus was a loving mother to her three children, and had a reputation as a superb cook.
She and her husband were among the team that revitalized Rainbow Presbyterian Church in the 1950s before its move to the present site on Rainbow Drive. After she and her husband moved further into town, they joined First Presbyterian Church where she was very active in the Women of the Church and had leadership roles in her church circle. She dearly loved that congregation.

Mrs. Moncus was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Elizabeth Perry of Clay County AL, by her husband Randall J. Moncus,and her two sons, Randall Jackson Moncus, Jr. and Jerry Wayne Moncus. She is survived by her daughter Jane Maughon and her husband Donald V. Cook of Decatur, Georgia. She is also survived by beloved nieces Jeannette Barrow, Atlanta, GA; Jo Ann Lovvorn,
Carrolton, GA; Jessie Gouge, Knoxville, TN; Leigh McDonald,Westfield, N.J; Vicky Wade, Dadeville AL; and Christy Young, Port St. Joe, FL. Genie Prince, Boaz AL, a dear great-niece, also survives her.

The family requests no flowers. Any donations may be made to Covenant Fellowship, 827 Steele
Station Road, Rainbow City AL 35906 (formerly First Presbyterian Church) or to your chosen charity.

Special thanks to Mary Johnson, both caregiver and best friend, and to her other caregivers Joyce Hall, Margaret Allsup, Frances Cargal,Mary Nix, Rebecca Hilleke, Janie Tucker, Joan Hessenbruch, Elizabeth Gibbs, and Lana Ramsey. They loved her like family. Also thanks to Dr. Thomas Corley and to her nurse Lindsey Horton and all the Amedisys Hospice staff.
