Obituary

Harold Raymond Smith, age 81, passed away on July 15, 2026.

A funeral service will be held at Crestwood Funeral Home on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Pastor Dutch Nelson will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Forrest Cemetery in Gadsden.

Harold was born on July 30, 1944, to Casto and Beulah Smith in Gadsden, Alabama. After growing up in Gadsden, he moved to Atlanta at the age of 18 to pursue job opportunities. He remained in the Atlanta area for 65 years while maintaining a home in Gadsden to stay close to his family. His family was his purpose and his everything. He lived to give and show love to everyone he met.

Harold proudly served our nation in Vietnam as a member of the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1968 after serving two years. After returning home, he enrolled at DeKalb Community College. Upon graduation, he began his career in machine tool sales with Teck Machine Tool in Tucker, Georgia, where he worked until his retirement in 2005. Sales was a perfect fit for Harold's personality, and he was highly successful because of his honesty, his love for people, and his desire to provide for his family.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Casto and Beulah Smith; his beloved brother, Earl Smith; his nephews, Vann Earl Smith and Wayne Patrick; his beloved brother-in-law, Curtis Patrick; his sister-in-law, Patsy Smith; his much-loved mother-in-law, Tennie Nelson; and his dear brother-in-law, Barry Nelson.

He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 63 years, Jackie Smith; his daughter, Rachel Broomell; his granddaughter, Isabella Broomell; his sister, Annie Ruth Patrick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be C. "Deacon" Bentley, Ron Davis, Curtis Brown, James Reio, Rocky Gibbs, and Ronnie Patrick.

Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Millard, Juan Torres, and Joe Thomson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Harold's honor to Gold Star Families (www.americasgoldstarfamilies.org) or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org).

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to everyone who loved Harold throughout his life.
