Funeral services will be at 3:30 pm on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home for Mr. Harmon Page "H.P." Gable, Jr., age 88, of Gadsden, who passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2012. Rev. Tommy Ferguson will officiate. Burial will take place at Crestwood Memorial Mausoleum. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct the services.
Mr. Gable served 4 years in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired from the Gadsden Police Department in 1969 as a Captain and then became city magistrate and retired in 1988 becoming the 1st individual to receive two retirements from the city of Gadsden. He was a member of the East Gadsden Baptist Church and was a dedicated Christian. He served his city, country and most importantly his Lord very faithfully.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Francis Gable; and two children, Jerry Lane Gable and Twyla Lynn Gable Nichols.
He is survived by his daughter, Lanita Ellen (Don) Helms; a son, Martin Tracy (Beth) Gable; grandchildren, Jeff Helms, Jenny (Gary) Whitfield, Jeremy (Brooke) Helms, Katelin (Wil) Deerman and Kelsey Gable; great grandchildren, Daniel Whitfield, Lauren Helms and Riley Helms; great great grandchildren, McKinley Grace Clemons and Drake Deerman, who will be arriving in May; special brothers-in-law, Pete Reid, Charles Reid and Bill Reid.
In-Lieu-of-flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army at 1-800-SAL-ARMY or in person at your local chapter.
Honorary pallbearers will be all former and current members of the Gadsden City Police Department.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, at Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home.
