December 11, 1931 – February 3, 2025
Gwen Jones Brothers of Gadsden, Alabama moved to her heavenly home on February 3, 2025, where she will live for eternity with her Lord and Savior.
Funeral services will be at Paden Baptist Church on Sunday, February 9, 2025. Charles Smith will officiate the service. Visitation is at 2:00 pm with funeral services starting at 3:00 pm. A brief graveside service at Crestwood Cemetery is immediately following.
She graduated from Talladega High School where she enjoyed being a majorette. She entered Jacksonville State Teachers College (now JSU) the summer of 1949 and was one of the first majorettes to march with the college band. Her majors were Physical Education and Health and Recreation; her minors were History and Sociology. After graduation from college in 1952, she got married and moved to Gadsden where she began a 31 year career as a Physical Education teacher, volleyball and tennis coach and cheerleader sponsor. She was at Litchfield Jr. High for nine years, Etowah High school for one year and twenty-one years at Gadsden High School. She retired in 1985. Mrs. Brothers was a long time active member of Paden Baptist Church and in more recent years a member of North Glencoe Baptist Church. She was an avid tennis player having earned five number one state of Alabama rankings in her age group along with many numerous other awards. Mrs. Brothers was preceded in death by her husband Chuck Brothers and her parents Dr. John R. and Rosalie Jones. Left to cherish her memories are her two sons Rick (Laura) Brothers and Tommy Brothers; granddaughter Amy Brothers, great-granddaughter Lainey Mackey; step-grandsons Steve (Tiffany) Nelson and John (Anna) Nelson, and step great-grandchildren Liam, Adaleigh, Blaze, Mac and Kalea Nelson, numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be nephews Steve Arrington, Richard Johnson, Jim Sims, Dair Goray and grandsons John and Liam Nelson.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to her nurse Hannah, and caregivers Celina and Pam for her excellent care. Crestwood Funeral will direct service.
