Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home for Mr. Gregory Hugh Hanks, 62, Hokes Bluff, who passed away Friday, Feb. 18, 2010. The Revs. Craig Reynolds and Tyson Burwell will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge. Mr. Hanks was born July 21, 1948, in Etowah County. He graduated from Hokes Bluff High in 1966. He attended Gadsden State Community College and retired from Gulf States Steel. He was a member of New Bethel Congregational Methodist Church, but had been faithfully attending Cove Creek Baptist Church for the last several years. Greg was a very creative and talented builder who also worked tirelessly to preserve and improve the land he lived on. His faith, family and home were his life. He was preceded in death by his father, James Hugh Hanks; and mother, Venis Firestone Hanks. He is survived by his wife, Alexis Daves Hanks; sons, James Matthew Hanks, Jesse Coleman Hanks (Kaley Bryant); grandson, Jace Coleman Hanks. Pallbearers will be friends and family. Special thanks to Amedisys Hospice, Cove Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
