Barber
January 16, 1949 – September 18, 2023
Gregory (Greg) Charles Barber, who left us and went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, September 18, 2023, will be remembered as a loving Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle, and Friend. Funeral services will be held at Crestwood Funeral Home on Thursday September 21, 2023. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 pm. with service starting at 3 p.m. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery following.
He spent his time in the outdoors as an avid fisherman and hunter. He had many outdoor partners but his favorites were his grandchildren, Trey and Kyle, and his brothers, Randy and Gary. He was a true man, strong and courageous. He served in the Army as a Vietnam War Veteran, drafted at the age of 18. He fought to protect our very freedoms today. He received two Purple Hearts as well as a Bronze Star for carrying a wounded comrade out of the battlefield while wounded himself. He is a member of Glencoe VFW Post 10408. He was a retired truck driver of many years. He loved Dale Earnhardt and NASCAR. He was a huge Alabama Football fan and never missed a game. He had the most contagious sense of humor and loving attitude.
He is preceded in death by his father, E.D. Barber and step father, Ken (Poppy) Lyda. Uncles, Harold, Rex, and J.D. (Uncle Buddy) Noah. Brother, Randy Barber. Nephew, Michael Caine Barber. Father and Mother-in-Law, R.V. And Iva Casey.
He is survived by his loving mother, Dorothy (Dot) Lyda. His wife of 32 years, Cynthia Casey Barber. His daughter Amy (Jeff) Moman. Grandchildren, Trey (Kennedy) Underwood, Kyle (Meagan) Underwood, Cole Moman, and Brady (Victoria) Moman. Great Grandchildren Waylon Elkins, Michael "Ty" Underwood and coming soon, Sutton Elizabeth Underwood. Band of Brothers, Mike (Judy) Barber, Gary (Deborah) Barber, Jeff (Stacy) Barber, and Sister-in-Law Karen Barber. Brothers-in-Law, Randy (Donna) Casey and Jeffrey (Tess) Casey. As well as a very large extended family and close friends. He will be sorely missed but we are grateful to know he is no longer in pain and healed in the arms of Jesus.
