Gordon Wayne Bonner of Jacksonville, AL, left this world peacefully to enter into his heavenly home on October 17, 2023. He was 88-years-old. Wayne was born on April 22, 1935, in Calhoun County and lived in the New Liberty and White Plains communities as a child. As an adult, he lived in the Webster Chapel community for most of his adult life before moving to Dothan, AL, in 1978 where he
lived until he moved to Jacksonville, AL, in 2007.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Crestwood Funeral Home in Gadsden, AL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Randy Satterfield will perform the ceremony.
Family was always dearest to his heart especially his wife and children. Wayne was married for 68 years to the love of his life, Mary Jo Bonner. Married while they were both teenagers, Wayne and Mary Jo were best friends who rarely left each other's sides. They had four wonderful children together: Teresa, David, Ira, and Jason.

Wayne was not only known for his love of the Lord and family, but he was also known to be a hard worker. He spent many hours working on his family farm when he was not working outside of the home. He retired from Alabama Power Company in 1996. Wayne was an accomplished musician and songwriter often playing and singing his songs for his family. It was not unusual to hear him serenading Mary Jo with the words to the song, "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?" while she sang along with him. He also enjoyed spending time with his daughter, golfing with his sons, and making memories with his grandchildren. On Saturdays during football season, you could count on him rolling with the Tide!

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Katherine Bonner, and his wife, Mary Jo Bonner.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories his daughter, Teresa Raby(Jim); sons, David Bonner, Ira Bonner (Shari), and Jason Bonner. He leaves his legacy with his grandchildren Rikki Benitez (Jose), Colton Jones, Ryan Loggins (Joel), Ashley Ried (Chris), Savannah Bonner, Alyssa Tharpe (Landon) and Haylee Hunton (Jordan). He was blessed to have eight great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Eli, and Elliott Benitez, Corbin, Mollie, and Emmie Jo Loggins, Coper Dean and Sadie Reese Tharpe. He also leaves behind a brother, Johnny (Margaret) Bonner along with many nieces, nephews, and other beloved extended family members.
Pallbearers will be Colton Jones, Jose Benitez, Chris Ried, Landon Tharpe, Chad Bonner, John Beal, and Jordan Hunton (honorary)
