Gladys Lucille (Smart) Lindsay, 90, of Gadsden, Alabama was called home to Heaven early Thursday morning, November 2. She was born January 19, 1927 in Jackson County, Alabama to Samuel and Ruby (Selby) Smart and had five siblings, all adoring brothers. She was a 1960 graduate of Alabama School of Nursing and served in the medical field for over forty years. She was employed at Baptist Memorial Hospital, the office of Dr. J.E. Bobo, Gadsden Regional Medical Center, and Coosa Valley Nursing Home. In retirement, she volunteered at Gadsden Regional for an additional ten years. Forever a servant, she touched many lives and ministered to countless others.

Funeral services will be at Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home, Sunday, November 5, 2017 at 3 pm. Grandson, Dr. D. Michael Lindsay and Reverend Mike Cleckler will officiate. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bumon E. Lindsay, her parents, her brothers Raymond, Emmett, Herbert, Claude, and Lewis (Sonny) Smart, son in law, Danny Stracener and nephew Frankie Smart, and special sister in law, Barbara Lindsay Smith.

She is survived by her son Bumon Kenneth Lindsay (Janet) of Canton, Mississippi and daughter Cecelia Ann Stracener of Douglasville, Georgia; her grandchildren, Daniel Mark Stracener (Darlene) of Piperton, Tennessee, Dana Stracener Smith (Jody) of Evansville, Indiana, and David Michael Lindsay (Rebecca) of Wenham, Massachusetts; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Cody Smith, Nathan and Rachel Stracener, and Elizabeth, Emily and Caroline Lindsay; special nieces, Judy Lawrence (Dwight), Randa Young, and Regina Evans (Mike); special nephews Boyd Smart (Peggy) and Joey Smith (Mary); sister-in-law Barbara Lindsay, and other special nieces, nephews, family members and friends she loved dearly, including chosen son, Arnold Walker (Ann), chosen daughter, Lisa Dobbins (Scott), and former daughter in law, Susan Lindsay.

Special thanks, love and gratitude to residents and staff of Paden Ridge Assisted Living and residents of Melodie Meadows, and her church congregation at Cathedral of Praise. A personal thanks to Dr. Steve Sanders, Dr. Peter Szeto, Dr. Rex Wilson and Dr. Richard Fiest for years of loving care.

Pallbearers will be Dwight Lawrence, Noah Farlow, Jody Smith, Mike Evans, Verbon Lindsay, and Mark Stracener.

Known as Ms. Lindsay to many, Aunt Cille to chosen ones, Nana to her grands, and adoring Mom to her children, Lucille will be missed by all. Her family takes comfort in her years of abiding faith in her Savior with whom she now eternally resides.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 1 pm to 3 pm at the funeral home.
