Funeral Services will be at 12 noon on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Southside for Gladys Dick Fowler Dolberry, age 93, of Southside, who died on Wednesday, May 18, 2011. Rev. Sam Day will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct.
Mrs. Dolberry was born in Etowah County and lived there her entire life, except for a brief period during World War II. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Southside since August 19, 1934.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James I. and Flossie Usry Dick; husbands, Sam Fowler and Wesley Dolberry; brothers, Theron and DeWitt Dick; and a sister, Jo Quinn.
Mrs. Dolberry is survived by her daughter, Priscilla Fowler (Robert) Smith, of Southside; sisters, Jean Holmes, of Flintstone, GA., and Jonnie (Robert) Baskin, of Gadsden and a number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Southside at 2560 Mountain View Drive, Southside, AL. 35907 or the Humane Society of Etowah County at 4200 Brooke Avenue, Gadsden, AL 35901.
Pallbearers will be Vernon Dolberry, Duane Fuhrman, Rayford Helms, Luther Robinson, Robert Smith and Ken Street.
Honorary pallbearers are the Christian Homemakers Sunday School Class, of First Baptist Church of Southside, MANNA volunteers from Southside Baptist Church and neighbor, Brian Willingham.
Special thanks to Brent Lawley and all the staff providing such compassionate care to Mrs. Dolberry and her family during her prolonged illness. Also, to her loving caregivers, Carol, Donna, Lori, Susan and Willie.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the First Baptist Church of Southside. All are invited to join the family for a time of celebration and remembrance and lunch in the church's Christian Life Center immediately following the service.
