GADSDEN- Funeral services for Gladys Huie Abernathy Tolleson will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 1 pm at the Crestwood Funeral Home in East Gadsden. Pastor Randy Postell and Pastor Andy Hadley will officiate. Interment will follow at the Crestwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Tolleson passed away on March 14, 2025, after a brief illness. Visitation by friends and family will be from 11 am until 1 pm on the day of the Funeral service.
Gladys Huie was born on August 1, 1929, in Etowah County to Jim and Leila Huie. Gladys graduated from Glencoe High School in 1946 and began a career at Goodyear Tire and Rubber. She worked in numerous departments throughout the plant. Gladys retired from Goodyear in 1987 after 41 years of loyal service.
Gladys was a "born again" Christian and an active member of East Gadsden Baptist Church. It was there that she taught at a women's Sunday School for over 22 years. Gladys was active in many ministries to include Bible School and "Operation Christmas Child". Her favorite Bible verse was John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth and the light. No man comes to the Father, but by me."
Her other interests included travel, camping, sewing, cooking, charity work and fellowship with friends and family.
Mrs. Tolleson was proceeded in death by her parents, Jim and Leila Huie; first husband Lewis J. Abernathy; daughter-in-law Cathy Jordan Abernathy; brother Jake Huie; brother Bill Huie; and sister Mable Hoge.
Glady Tolleson is survived by her husband of 53 years Charles Tolleson; brother Jim Huie (Margaret) of Huntsville; sons Robert (Donna) Abernathy of Jacksonville and Thomas (Carol) of Suwanee, GA; daughters Lisa Myers (Brent) of Mobile; Teresa (Tab) Carr of Gadsden; and Connie (Earl) Johnson of Guntersville.
The family of Gladys extends thanks to the support and care she received from the caring Aides to include Danielle, Kathy, Kim, Chelsey, and Jesslyn. The staff from Amdedisys Hospice is commended for the medical care that was provided at the later stages of her illness. Her physician and nurses (Dr. Mayberry, Nurae Hannah and Nurse Kelsey) provided the highest level of loving care and support during this difficult time.
Honorary pallbearers include her 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. They include Robbie (Andy) Hadley, John (Cindy) Abernathy, Suzi Bonner,

Christian Wells, Dylan Wells, Jachin Wells, Dylan White, Tyler White, Kadence Baker, Andrew Baker, Bryson Baker, Lennon Carr, Ezra Carr, Judah Douglas, Jack Douglas, Bailey Hadley, Bridger Hadley, Ryker Ginn, and Cameron Jarrells.
The pallbearers include Joe Wheeler, Corey Winston, Gary O'Bryant, Murlis Boozer, Bill Williams and Mike Griffin.
In lieu of flowers, Gladys requested donations be made to Way of the Cross, 101 N. 24th Street, Gadsden, AL 35904
