Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Crestwood Chapel for Mr. George C. Usry Sr., 87, of Gadsden, who died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014. The Revs. Albert Morgan and John D. Rector will officiate. Burial in Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Usry, of 60 years; and son, Thomas Usry. He was a lifelong resident of Gadsden. He served our country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy. He was also a retiree of Republic Steel. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved all of his family. He was a graduate of Gadsden High School.
He is survived by his children, George (Sherry) Usry Jr., Vicki (Bill) Vasser, Heath (Patricia) Usry; as a well as his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandson; also his sister, Marie Higgins.
Pallbearers will be Mark Rector, Bill Vasser, Alan Usry, Chance Usry, Tyler Renfroe, Baley Renfroe.
Special thanks to Dr. Webb Sledge, Dr. Virenjan Narayan, Dr. K.J. Shah and the CCU nurses and fourth-floor nurses at Riverview Regional Medical Center.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Crestwood Funeral Home.
