IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gary Leon
Holloway
April 21, 1938 – December 27, 2024
Gary Holloway, 86, of Gadsden, AL passed away Friday, December 27, 2024. Services will be held at Falls Mountain Church on Monday, December 30th. The family will receive visitors at 1:00, with the funeral following at 2:00.
Gary was born April 21, 1938 as the only child to George and Evelyn Holloway. He was a graduate of Gadsden High School and later served in the Army Air National Guard. He was a gifted artist of sketch and photography, winning several awards and working alongside his wife capturing wedding memories for many of Gadsden's brides and grooms. He went on to work for A-1 Pest Control for 30 years, proudly known as "the bugman" to many and making friends at every stop on his route. His self-proclaimed greatest accomplishment, however, was his family. He was faithfully married to his wife, Myrna, for 58 years. His daughter and grandchildren were his greatest joy, and he was happy to talk about them to anyone who would listen. He was a member of Falls Mountain Church (formerly Bellevue United Methodist) for 41 years. In his retirement years he enjoyed photographing local scenery and chronicling the history of Gadsden in the "Welcome to Gadsden" Facebook group. He also enjoyed eating at Jacks, looking after his grandchildren, chatting with his nurses at Fresinius Dialysis, and collecting antique cameras, signs, and clocks.
He is preceded in death by his father, George Holloway; mother, Evelyn Lankford Holloway; and brothers-in-law Mickey Busby and Mark Busby. He is survived by his wife, Myrna Holloway; daughter, Amanda (Justin) Rogers; grandson, Jefferson Rogers; granddaughter, Joy Kate Rogers; sisters-in-law, Diania Busby, Sherri Holcomb, and Nancy Ford; brother-in-law, Larry (Martha) Busby; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Fresinius Kidney Care of Gadsden and the church family of Falls Mountain Church for their love and service to Gary.
Pallbearers are Andy Hughes, Shane Davis, Bryan Busby, Keith Busby, Michael Barnes, Leslie Proulx, Douglas Roberts, and William Roberts. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Busby, Sonny Kidd, Tony Purcell, Chuck Durham, Jimmy Gramling, Ricky Young, and Ray Watson Seals.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Alabama Kidney Foundation or Falls Mountain Church.
