Garlon Wayne "Lightnin'" Griffith

There will be a Celebration of life service at 1pm Friday, March 17, 2023 at Crestwood Chapel for
Garlon Wayne Griffith, age 79, of Attalla who entered into the Arms of Jesus Tuesday, March 14, 2023.
Jeff Underwood and Shane Sanford will officiate.The family will receive friends at the funeral home from
11 AM until 1 PM prior to the service. Burial will be at Dailey Chapel Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial
Funeral Home will direct services.
Garlon "Lightnin'" Griffith was born in Gadsden and was a graduate of Emma Sansom High School,
Class of 1962. He worked at Hays Aircraft and retired from Republic Steel ( LTV/Gulf States). He was a
member of the Church of the Nazarene at First Church for many years.
He touched the lives of many who still refer to him as "Coach", leading several Attalla sports teams to
championship titles in tee ball and baseball as well as a youth football National Championship title.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Emily Cherry Griffith; children Nikki Griffith Sanford (Shane)
and Jason Griffith (Candace); grandchildren Nicholas Sanford, Jacob Sanford, Bryant Griffith, and
Chrissa Griffith; sisters Gale McBride (Garry), Judy Mabrey(Larry), and Cathy Green (Billy), Carol Perry
(Jimmy). He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Nicholas Sanford, Jacob Sanford, Bryant Griffith, Tyler Gowens, Dalton Gowens and Johnathan  Amos.
Honorary pallbearers are those whom he mentored and coached throughout the years as well as
assisting coaches.
