Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Marie Roberts, 75, will be at 1 p.m. Friday (March 13) at Crestwood Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends at the Crestwood Memorial Chapel from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the same day. Burial will be at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Roberts passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009, after a brief illness. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Jerry Keeling. Mrs. Roberts was born in Etowah County in 1934 and spent most of her life as a resident of Gadsden where she was an active member of College Heights Baptist Church. She was a devoted mother and the loving wife of Charles Payne Roberts, with whom she cherished 53 years of marriage until his death last year. She is survived by two sisters and a brother: Inez Simpson of Hokes Bluff, Ruth Bone of Oneonta, and Cecil (wife Carol) Loyd of Gadsden; daughter, Dr. Joan Friedlander of Mobile; son, Charles Darrel (wife Anita) Roberts of Germany; and four grandchildren, Harrah Friedlander, Benjamin Friedlander, and Holly Friedlander of Mobile; and Anna Roberts of Germany. Pallbearers will be Tony and Larry Simpson, and Deacons from College Heights Baptist Church. The family would like to extend its appreciation to everyone for their prayers and support.
