Obituary

Ruth was born in 1933 to Carl and Exa Dulaney. She began her career as a bookkeeper for Wakefield’s Grocery, where she met the love of her life, Leamon M. Fite, Sr. Together they built a loving family and welcomed their son, Leamon M. Fite, Jr. (“Lea”), who later carried on the family grocery business and proudly served as a State Representative.

Ruth dedicated her life to caring for others. She is best remembered for her 35 years of service as an emergency department nurse at Regional Medical Center. Following her retirement from RMC, she continued her passion for nursing by serving as a critical care flight nurse with Med Jet Medical Transport, traveling to countries around the world to care for patients in need.

Outside of her professional accomplishments, Ruth enjoyed a rich and active life. One of her proudest personal achievements was attaining the Bronze Life Master level in duplicate bridge, a goal she had long aspired to reach.

Above all, Ruth will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, compassionate nurse, and loyal friend. Her kindness, strength, and dedication to others left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leamon M. Fite, Sr., and her son, Leamon M. Fite, Jr. (“Lea”).

Those left to cherish her memory include her grandsons, Leamon M. Fite III (“Trae”) and Jerrod Fite; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Ella Grace, Aiden, Allyne, and Garrett.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gadsden State Cardinal Foundation Nursing Scholarship Fund.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional nurses at Regional Medical Center and to her devoted caregivers, Valda, Valerie, and Kecia, for their compassionate care and support.
