Funeral Services will be 2 P.M., Saturday, May 6th, at Crestwood Funeral Home
for Ertis Coley Ponder, 94, of Gadsden, who passed away on May 2,2017.
Dr. Roger Beshears will officiate.
Mrs. Ponder worked as bookkeeper prior to marriage, then was a loving
caretaker of others, first as a wife and mother, then, in turn, with her
mother-in-law, mother, and husband. She was a faithful member of Mt.
Carmel Baptist Church for roughly 60 years, where her joy was working
with children. She was often seen in her yard, tending to her flowers and
her garden. She has been a resident at Mountain Cove Assisted Living for
almost 5 years, where working jigsaw puzzles was a special joy. She will
be dearly missed, but will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William H. "Bill"
Ponder; parents, William H. and Lizzie Coley; and brothers Elvis, Fayne, JT
and Amiel Coley.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Humphrey (Phillip), Hokes
Bluff, and Tera Wilder (David), Huntsville; three grandchildren, Robin
Humphrey Hurter (Chris), Tuscaloosa; Daniel Wilder (Amanda), Auburn,
and Adam Wilder (Teairah), Huntsville; four great-grandchildren, Barrett,
Rowan, Jonas, and Rosalie Wilder; sister, Doris Walker, Glencoe; a host of beloved nieces and nephews and loving friends.
Special thanks to Kim Arledge and the caregivers and staff of Mountain
Cove Assisted Living, who became like family to her.
ln lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church,
