Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. this evening at Crestwood Chapel for Ernest Edgar Emery, 89, of Duck Springs, who died December 18, 2013. The Rev. Royce Head will officiate. Graveside services will be Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Keener. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge.
Mr. Emery lived most of his life in Keener, Ala. He served in WWII and in several major battles, including the Battle of the Bulge. After returning home, he worked at John Thomas Ford until they closed, then Devan Lowe, where he retired from. He was an active member and Deacon of Greenwood Baptist Church until his health declined. He was a loving husband, father, granddaddy and friend and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lon A. and Ezetta Emery; brothers, Cecil and Raymond Emery; sisters, Louise Clayton and Lillian Foster; great-grandson, Kane Mullins.
On September 13, 1946, he married the love of his life, Lora Mae Clayton, whom he leaves behind to meet again in Heaven. He is also survived by son, William Travis (Shirley) Emery of Duck Springs, where Mr. Emery lived for over five years; daughter, Tina (Jackie) Hubbard of Pinson, Ala.; granddaughters, Tracy (Rick) Sanford, Shannon Weeks, Elizabeth Hubbard and Amanda Hubbard; great-grandchildren, Brad Mullins, Rachel, David and Amy Weeks; sister, Doris Parrish of Jacksonville, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be Rick Sanford, David Weeks, Jerry Emery, Don Emery, Don Peek and Mike Bailey.
Flowers will be accepted or make donations to Greenwood Cemetery, 8268 U.S. 11 North, Attalla, AL 35954.
