Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Crestwood Chapel for Mrs. Geraldine Gilchrist "Memaw," 91, of Glencoe, who died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013. The Rev. Johnny Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge.
She lived for her family, raising six children of her own and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Her love for her family and her fantastic cooking will be dearly missed. She was a faithful member of Gadsden Christian Fellowship and loved the Lord dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Gilchrist; and parents, Jessie and Grace Sims; grandson, Joey Brand; and sisters, Ruby Elam, Inez Partlow; and brother, Charles Sims.
She is survived by her children, John (Wanda) Gilchrist, Grace (Jimmy) Jones, Charles (Kayron) Gilchrist, Mary (Jimmy) Wood, Greg (Selwa) Gilchrist and Elizabeth Gilchrist; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Billie Sims.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gadsden Christian Fellowship Celebrate Recovery, 719 Nunnally Ave., Gadsden, AL 35903.
Special thanks to Gadsden Healthcare Center station 1 and the entire staff for being a blessing to our mother.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
