Elton Conrad Brown, age 83, was born on August 22, 1926 and passed away on August 9, 2010. Funeral Service will be Thursday, August 12 at noon at Crestwood Chapel. The Rev. Jay Stewart will officiate. Masonic rites will be held at the conclusion of the service. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct services.
Mr. Brown was a native of Roanoke, AL and a long time resident of Gadsden. He had retired from Republic Steel Pipe and Plate Mill. He was a member and deacon of Dwight Baptist Church. He was a member and Past Master of Dwight Masonic Lodge No. 550, member and Past Patron of Alabama City Chapter No. 345 Order of the Eastern Star, member of Past Masters Club, and SOAR.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Jo Hudson Brown; mother Annie Mae Freeman Brown; father Lloyd Woodson Brown; sisters Arzelia Messer, Blondell Phillips, Marcile Barksdale; and brothers Cloyd, Rayford, and Doris Brown.
He is survived by his wife Katherine Logan Brown; daughter Mary Elizabeth Brown (Harold)Jones; stepson Michael (Sherry ) Logan; grandsons Wesley Conrad (Laura) Gulledge and Justin Landers Gulledge; step grandsons Christopher (Mandy) Jones, Harold (Kim) Jones, III.; great grandchildren Parker, Presley, and Peyton Gulledge; step great grandchildren Chloe, Sidney, Annie, Sean, Alec Jones, Daniel Logan; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Leonard Bullock, Larry Bellamy, Harold Mabrey, Louie Epperson, Michael Logan, Harold Jones, Wesley Gulledge, Chris Jones, and Hal Jones.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. V. Tummalla, Dr, Lynn Luther, Dr. Jaswall, Emmett Cornutt, Paul Allen, Gene Sharpton, Jerry Willingham, Chris Barnett, Joe Logan, Ray Bradley, Jerry Rogers, and all of his Masonic Brothers.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Dwight Baptist Church Life Center, 520 North 29th Street, Gadsden, AL, 35904.
A special thanks to the administration and all employees of Collinsville Health Care, our heartfelt appreciation which can't be said in words to all the staff at station three, you were not only his caregivers but his extended family as well. And to his special caregiver and chosen son Rudalpho and Christina, through your tender care he knew he was loved.
Elton was a kind gentleman who always believed in the goodness of people. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 5 until7 pm this evening.
