On September 5, 2013, the Lord called home his faithful servant. Funeral services for Elsie Jo Cunningham Clowdus will be held Sunday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m. at Crestwood Chapel. Crestwood Funeral Home will direct services.Mrs. Clowdus was born in Gadsden, Ala., in 1918, where she lived with her late husband, Thomas J. "Tom" Clowdus, and her children. She was active in her Lord's ministry and taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She was a past member of Louis Street Baptist Church and a current member of Calvary Baptist Church. She worked beside her husband many years in the shoe department at Belks.She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. "Tom" Clowdus; parents, Blanch and Walter Cunningham; and sister, Kathryn Bailey.She is survived by her son, Wayne Clowdus, Plano, Texas; daughters, Janet Tucker, Rainbow City, Ala., and Connie Stone, Carrollton, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; her faithful dog and companion, Penny; and numerous nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be Michael Clowdus, Kevin Stone, Donald Tucker Jr., Ritchie Bailey, Steve Bailey and Ronnie Tucker.Honorary pallbearers are Jeff Clowdus, Tommie Tucker, Lex Clowdus and the staff at Horizon Bay.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the hour of service.
