A celebration of life will be 2 pm Friday at Crestwood Chapel for Mr. Edsel "Pete" Swicegood age 86 of Gadsden who died Monday in Winston Salem North Carolina after a short illness while visiting family. Eddie Nichols will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge of services.
Mr. Swicegood was born and raised in Alabama City, was an Army veteran and lifelong member of East Gadsden Baptist Church. He retired from Engineering Sales with over 32 years of service as a sheet metal worker. He was an avid outdoorsman , loved fishing ,hunting ,riding motorcycles and all else outdoors. He was a loving husband , father, grandfather and friend to all and will be dearly missed.
He is preceded in death by wife of over 59 years Bobbie Lee Swicegood, parents Otis and Nora Swicegood and brother Earl Swicegood.
He is survived by children Vicki(Joey) Bowers, Brad(Nicole) Swicegood and Stacy Rumore. Grandchildren April(Chris) Berry, Brett Bowers ,Brittney Swicegood, Angelika(Dwight) Savage, Garrett Rumore , Lexus (John) Bryant, great grandchildren Sam, Shawn, Zoey and Chloe as well as numerous nieces, nephews and in laws.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Special thanks to his friends at Glencoe Senior Activity Center. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 12 pm until the time of service.
