Obituary

Funeral services will be at 11 am Wednesday at Crestwood Chapel for Mrs. Virginia Abney age 92 of Tucker Ga. formerly of Gadsden who died Saturday. The Reverend Gerald Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Abney was a lifelong educator. She began her teaching career at Emma Sansom moving to Gadsden State Community College when it opened in 1965 and retired in 1977. After retirement she and her husband continued the ministry to foreign students enrolled in the language program .She was a faithful member at Dwight Baptist Church and later Paden Baptist Church. She influenced many lives in her family, the local community , as well as around the world.
Mrs. Abney was preceded in death by Husband of 58 years Howard "Luster" Abney. Parents Lewis and Etta Sterling, great granddaughter Kaidence Elise Burris, sisters Marjorie Braswell, Barbara Wilborn and Lerah Tyson.
She is survived by daughters Belinda (Marvin)Roye ,Karen(Robert) Coleman and Virginia "Ginie" (Timothy) Anthony.
Grandchildren Keith(Brandy) Roye ,Scott(Mandy)Roye) ,Jonathan(Ronni) Roye ,Trent(Lindsey) Anthony ,Andrew Anthony ,Autumn Anthony and 8 great grandchildren.
Donations may be made to Paden Baptist Church.
Special thanks to the staff of North Lake Gardens and friends at Paden Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 pm.
