Mrs. Edith "Inez" Simpson, 87, Hokes Bluff, died Tuesday, July 19, 2016. Her graveside funeral will be officiated by the Rev. Anthony Copeland at 1 p.m. Thursday at Crestwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Simpson grew up in Hokes Bluff and attended Hokes Bluff School where she completed the 9th grade before quitting school in order to work with her dad at the Sequoit Cotton Mill in Gadsden. She was a member of Goodyear Heights Baptist Church. Her Sunday school class is the class of Ruth, which she loved very much.
She married Clyde Simpson in 1946 and lived in Fords Valley at Hokes Bluff. They later moved to Gadsden. In 1992, they moved to Marathon, Florida, which is between Key Largo and Key West. They lived there 12 years and then moved back to Hokes Bluff.
She leaves behind the joys of her life, son, Wayne Simpson (Alana), Hokes Bluff; three grandsons, Larry Simpson (Dana), Hokes Bluff, Tony Simpson (Sherry), Hokes Bluff, and Brian Cheatwood (Lisa), Atlanta; two great-granddaughters, Lauren Simpson and Haley Simpson; sister, Ruth Bone, Jacksonville; brother, Cecil Loyd (Carol), Gadsden; special niece, Reita Birchler; special niece and nephew, Johnny and Susan Minton; sisters in-law, Mary Katherine Machen, Chattanooga, and Betty Eads, Dalton, Georgia; a host of other nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
She was preceded in death by husband, Clyde Simpson; daughter, Jane Cheatwood; sister and brother in-law, Evelyn and Charles Roberts; brother-in-law, Eddie Bone; sister-in-law, Lynda Loyd; father, the Rev. Andy Loyd, and mother, Gussie Morris Loyd; stepmother, Ada Loyd.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and friends. A special thank you to the MICU nurses, ninth floor staff and Dr. Akinsanya at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will be Thursday, 11 a.m. until time of funeral at Crestwood Funeral Home, with burial in the adjacent cemetery.
