Obituary

Funeral services will be 1 pm Thursday at Crestwood Chapel for Dr. Edgar James "Ed" Whatley, 75, of Gadsden, who died Sunday, January 6, 2019. The Reverend Tommy Marshall will officiate .Burial will be in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home directing.

Dr. Whatley was a Captain in The U.S. Army Veterinary Corps, and retired from USDA as a supervisory Veterinary officer, in the meat and poultry services division. He was of the Baptist faith. He was active in various City Of Gadsden projects and was especially passionate about The Black Creek Trail systems, for which a trail was named in his honor. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Humane Society.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years ,Barbara C. Whatley. He is survived by his daughter Mishaela (Larry) Brooks, son Matt Whatley, and granddaughter Arial Brooks.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Hematology Oncology Associates, Dr. Lucian Newman III, and the Gadsden Fire Department.

Donations may be made in memory of Ed Whatley to the Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama, earmarked for Friends of the Falls. Donations can also be taken to Noccalula Falls Park office.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 11 am until the time of service.
