Our Lord and Savior welcomed home Dorothy Burger Smith on August 18, 2023 at the age of 92. Dorothy was born October 25, 1930 to Leonard and Gracie Burger. She was a graduate of Hokes Bluff High School. Dorothy worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber for 10 years and spent the remainder of her life as a homemaker. She loved to read her Bible and study God's word daily. On of her favorite verses was Psalm 23:4; Yea, though I walk through the valley of shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thy art with me; Thy rod and staff they comfort me.  She clinged to the promise of "Great is my reward in Heaven"
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Gene S. Smith; parents Leonard Burger and Gracie Burger; brothers Willie (Pat) Burger (Idora), Ersten Burger (Ann), and Clarence Burger ; sisters in law Audra Burger and Jean Smith.
She is survived by daughter Kathy S. Fortenberry; son Mark S. Smith (Ann); grandchildren Abby R. Smith and  Ashley S. Freeman (Andrew), great granddaughter Andi Freeman; brother Stanley Burger (Beulah); brother in law Buddy Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
The family expresses their deepest thanks to Centerwell Home Health and Gentiva Hospice for their loving care given to her. A special thanks you to Nurse Anna Stone and Chaplin Carol Wasser for their encouragement and support to our family.
A private graveside service will be held by the immediate family at Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral will direct services.
