Funeral Services will be at 1pm Tuesday at Crestwood Chapel for Dorothy Rachel Gossett "Grannie" Pierce 84, of Hokes Bluff who died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family. Bro. Bruce Jenkins will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge.
Grannie was born March 12, 1925 in Cherokee County. She was the daughter of Burt and Cora Gossett. She married James Floyd "Son" Pierce and lived most of her life in Etowah County. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Glencoe..
She was preceded in death by her husband, infant son, Jimmy, her parents, 4 brothers, Austin, Bernie, Louis, and Buddie Gossett, 2 sisters, Violet "Sis" Pierce and Ella B. Elliott Elrod.
She is survived by her 5 daughters, Ann (Arnold) Walker, Joyce (Bob) Sutley, Jane (Jimmy) Penny, Cathy (Gary) Slaten, Sherian (James) Blevins; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Edna (Fain) Pruitt; and a host of friends and extended family.
Pallbearers will be Lee Slaten, Chris Walker, Brandon Floyd, Jason Floyd, Chad Blevins, Tracy McMurray, Jason Roberts, and Jeff Stanley.
Special thanks to Michelle Smith, her caregiver, for her love and support, also to Dr. Erwin Peyton, Becky, Kristi, Lorretta, and Jay of Amedisys Hospice, 6th floor nurses and staff of Gadsden Regional Medical Center, and Don Slaten. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
