Donald R. Holmes Jr., age 64, passed away on April 6, 2026. A funeral service will be held at Crestwood Funeral Home on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., with visitation beginning one hour prior at 10:30 a.m. Tommy Marshall will officiate. Burial will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens.

Don was born in the Midway/McDonald community in 1961. He graduated from Fort Cherry Junior/Senior High School in 1980. He later made his home in the Gadsden/Attalla area, where he resided until his passing. Don enjoyed Alabama football and the Pittsburgh Steelers, as well as fishing and NASCAR. He especially cherished time spent relaxing on his porch, often with his favorite “Kool-Aid” (beer) in hand, sipping through a straw.

He was preceded in death by his beloved dog, Babe (2024); his father, Donald Ray Holmes Sr. (2016); and his mother, Margaret (Martin) Holmes (2014).

He is survived by his son, Justin Kay; his sisters, Janet Lynn (Holmes) Mayben and Dona Rae (Holmes) Gaudio; his uncle, Richard Martin; his special adopted son, Blake; Haleigh Stovall; and DeWayne Buckerstaff; and his special niece, Rachel Diana Mayben. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Dona Gaudio, Joel Nussbaum, Blake Stovall, Kevin Martin, Marvin Barkley, and Jay Whin.

The family extends special thanks to the nurses and staff of the CCU at Riverview Hospital for their care. Thank you to pastor Tommy Marshall for all his visits and encouraging words while he was in the hospital.
