Funeral service will be at 2pm Saturday March 8, at Rainbow City Church of God for Donald Floyd "Donnie" Irwin, Sr., age 73, of Glencoe, who died March 5, 2014. Rev. Jerry Irwin and Pastor Doug Baker will officiate. Entombment will be at Crestwood Mausoleum. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct services.
Mr. Irwin was first and foremost a fine example of a Christian servant his entire life. He was a loving husband, father, pawpaw, and brother. He was a lifelong member of the Church of God which he was very proud. As a member of the Church of God, he served in many capacities of the church. He was a member and worshipped at Rainbow City Church of God. He was retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 33 years of service. He was a hardworking employee and dedicated to his job. He was a proud veteran having served in the U.S. Army. Aside from serving his church and family his happiest times were spent "piddling" in his garage working on lawn mowers and anything else he could do to help his friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed Trade Day and spending time with his family at the lake.
He is preceded in death by his parents Rev. and Mrs. John Irwin; sister Brenda Ward, and infant brother John Wayne Irwin.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Dianne; children Don (Monica) Irwin, Jr. and Pam (Tom) Hancock; grandchildren Corey Hancock, Austin Hancock, Baylor Hancock, Trey Irwin and Darcy Kate Irwin; brothers Jerry (Debbie) Irwin, Anthony (Chris) Irwin, and Michael (Kathy) Irwin; sister Regina (Jon) Stinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Special thanks to all our family and friends for their prayers and support.
The family will receive friends at Rainbow City Church of God from 6 until 8 pm tonight, and Saturday from 1 until the service time.
