Obituary

With deep sorrow, Dixie Elaine Coker Ferguson passed away on May 4 th, 2026, surrounded by her family and friends. Dixie was loved immensely as she was a strong, fiery woman who was absolutely devoted to her family.

Born on March 6, 1963, in Gadsden, Al, Dixie grew up with 5 siblings and was the youngest child to come into this world. She grew up caring for others and developed a sense of responsibility and compassion. In her adulthood, she would go on to have two beautiful children who she loved most in this world. As a mother, she was supportive and helped to ground them as she would anyone else who needed it. Dixie was resilient, and she gave endlessly of herself.

Dixie didn’t just leave this world; she joined another as she ascended into Heaven where she is at peace with her parents, Jerry Coker and Gwynne Coker. She also is with her brother, Johnny Coker and his son Joseph Coker, as well as her sister and her best friend, Shelley Hale, who previously passed on December 13, 2025.

She is survived by her two children; Her son, Chad Ferguson and his wife Brandy, and Emilie Ferguson and Colby. She was known as Nana to her grandchildren, Livie Grace, Briley, Isaac, and Charlee Kate. As well as her dog Nora.

She is also survived by her brothers and sister: Tommy Coker and Rhonda, Jeff Coker and Debbie, Margaret Johnson and Lee.

Nieces and Nephews: Angela Crumpton and Wes, Andrea Gatlin and Nathan, Jason Coker and Jenny, Matt Johnson and Micky, Chris Johnson and Afton, Kevin Johnson and Brittney.

This is a big family with great nieces and nephews, and Dixie loved every single one of them.
