Funeral services will be at 1pm Monday at Crestwood Chapel for Deana Johnson age 67, who died Wednesday, August 19, 2009.. Burial will be in Lula Cemetery in Arbyrd, Missouri. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Agnes Nichols of Buck Island.
Deanna worked for Gadsden State Community College Court Reporting Program from 1982 until 2004. She was a Registered Professional Reporter, Certified Court Reporter, Certified Reporting Instructor, and Certified Program Evaluator. She was a member of the California Court Reporters Association. She was a member of the Alabama Court Reporters Association where she was a past president and served on various other committees also. She was a member of the National Court Reporters Association where she was on the Board of Directors, served as a trustee on the National Court Reporters Foundation, and served on various other committees at the national level. She was appointed by Governor Riley to serve on the Alabama Board of Court Reporting. She wrote numerous articles and made several presentations for the Alabama Court Reporters Association and the National Court Reporters Association. She was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Gadsden, the Etowah County Republican Party,the Gadsden Fire Department Personnel Board, Gadsden Civil Service Board, Rose Haven Center for Domestic Violence, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Eastern Star. Her hobbies were traveling and reading.
