Obituary

David Leon Hendrix Sr., 72 of Gadsden, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at 11 a.m.
David was a loving father to his three sons; David Jr., Cary, and Eric; loving grandfather to his grandchildren; Gabrielle and Justin. As David's family continued to expand he became a loving father-in-law too, Barbara and Kassi; a loving grandfather-in-law to Justin, and a bonus grandfather too, Brayleigh, Blakeleigh, and Briggs. David is also survived by his two sisters; Sandra and Teri, many nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
David was born on July 27, 1948, in Gadsden, Al to Jesse and Thelma Louise Parrish. At the age of 19, David decided to join the army and served in the Vietnam War. After returning home from the Army David worked for AAA Plumbing and Pottery, followed by Goodyear, before starting his own Concrete Business. David excelled within his concrete business and nicknamed himself the "Concrete Doctor". He was proud to wear that title and say he formed, poured, and finished a significant amount of jobs in Etowah County and the surrounding area. During the winter months, David would often be found working in his woodpiles, where he earned the nicknames "The Woodman" and "The Human Log Splitter", as he hand split his firewood until he passed that torch down to David Jr., Cary, Eric, and Tyler. He loved and enjoyed sharing his passion for concrete and firewood with his family and friends. He was a hard worker and never did things the easy way. In recent years, his passion for cutting trees almost got the best of him, but he was a fighter and overcame that obstacle.
In the end, David passed away doing exactly what he loved. Although our hearts were not ready we have known that his was. David was steadfast in his faith and often expressed his readiness to return to the Kingdom of Heaven. As we say our goodbyes to our deeply loved and cherished father, grandfather, and friend, we raise our cup of coffee to him and say, " We Love You, and We Will See You Once Again".
